By now, many of you have probably heard that VMware is planning to add User Management features to Horizon with their planned acquisition of Immidio. Many will look to the leaders in the UEM market for their reaction. Not to be too cliché but VMware’s “WEM” (Workspace Environment Management) positioning validates the Liquidware Labs User Environment Management, Application Delivery with Layering, and User Experience solution set that we’ve been delivering for years. Now with the release of Stratusphere 5.7 using the API has gotten even easier. Now included is a graphical tool, called the Stratusphere API Builder. With this new tool you can quickly build API URL calls with simple graphical point and click selections. In this post I’ll showcase the power of the Stratusphere API, and the ease at which you can use employ Stratusphere metrics and information to perform tasks such as performing ad hoc application audits. Stratusphere UX is a comprehensive monitoring, performance validation and diagnostics solution for organizations that support physical, virtual and mixed-platform desktop environments. And for those of you involved in virtual desktop and virtual application delivery—specifically, I’m referring to platforms and architectures such as VMware View and RDSH, as well as Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop—you know the care and feeding required to stay ahead of the curve and deliver a positive user experience is no easy task; there are blind spots aplenty.
Ultimately, being proactive with respect to these architectures is about keeping users happy, reaping operational efficiencies and being able to quickly remediate issues when things go bump in the night. In this post, I’d like to introduce you to Stratusphere 5.7, which is now generally available. I’d also like to take this time to share a few ways you can help eliminate some of these blind spots and extend visibility into your next-generation desktop. Continue reading
Without a lot of fanfare, pomp or circumstance, Microsoft made a recent change to its Windows licensing model. Truth be told, it was a significant change. I won’t rehash all the details, as you can read it direct from Microsoft here. The new model is a great thing for VDI as it reinforces the software giant’s new-found support of mobile devices, BYOD and a device-agnostic world. Good for you, Microsoft! Continue reading
With the release of Stratusphere UX 5.7, new Sparkline Graph dashboards have been introduced to the Advanced Inspectors. A Sparkline is a small line graph, which shows the variations in data over a defined period. It is meant to be succinct and pointed but provide meaningful information. That is exactly what the Stratusphere UX Sparkline graphs do. They look at key metrics across a number of different dashboards to provide relevant information of your environment that help guide you to identify possible issues and their associated root cause.
The Liquidware Labs Stratusphere architecture, including the Stratusphere Hub, Database, Network Station and Connector ID Key gather extremely detailed metrics and information about all aspects of your physical and virtual desktop workspaces. And for those of you that may be employing our architecture for VDI or application publishing, you know this visibility is key to staying on top of resource constraints, identifying rogue users or applications, and just being more proactive about the overall health and optimization of your environment. In short, Stratusphere UX helps you to sleep well at night. Continue reading
Any day now VMware will be making the Horizon 6 suite of products generally available. We’re quite excited about the platform and new features here at Liquidware Labs—specifically VMware’s entrance into the world of hosted applications.
Which brings me to my point… End user computing and the next-generation workspaces that are emerging, are all about enabling users to have anywhere, anytime and any device access to … applications! It’s the applications that are driving the transformation. And related, VMware’s addition of hosted applications brings a whole new level of flexibility to the game. Continue reading
I’m going to begin this blog with a warning… It’s important that I highlight the fact I may be preaching here—I’m quite passionate about the subject matter, and I believe much of what I’m about to say is aimed at those who are also preaching at you.
Who among you has not seen an article or email with a subject along the lines of, “Top Five VDI Critical Success Factors” or “10 Tips to a VDI Nirvana.” Maybe it’s the circles I run in, but I tend to get a few of these in my inbox each week. Some of them have pretty good nuggets of information. But most are aimed at getting you to look at some exotic, unitasking technology that will cure what ails you. Continue reading
I come from a small town, but I have always tried to think big thoughts. I think we should all challenge ourselves to think things we used to dream impossible — it’s where the innovation and the magic come from. Continue reading
